Beauty In Simplicity

You could say that Naomi Taplin’s appreciation and love of ceramics started at the age of 12 when she would watch her mother make pottery items to sell to clients and at the markets on the Sunshine Coast. Artistic talent and a love for clay ultimately culminated with where she is today as the owner of Studio Enti. A generous gallery space in Botany which is dedicated to housing her small group of talented staff with whom she collaborates ideas and processes to produce her range of ceramic tableware, lighting and home décor. All pieces are individual and echo her design style of classic simplicity drawing from a Scandinavian and Japanese influenced colour palette that will certainly transcend time. It doesn’t stop here though, Naomi most enjoys working on commissions as this is where she truly indulges her artistic talent. Aligned closely with architects and interior designers, Naomi is producing artisanal pieces of beautiful lighting and handmade original tiles. Rewind back to the past and after having studied a Bachelor of Design, Naomi travelled and lived in Europe for seven years. When she returned to Australia, she started working from a small studio in Erskinville. Time invested in using different clay mediums and testing several shapes and colours paid off and Studio Enti was born. Naomi is self taught and over the years has had her fair share of pieces that were disasters and others that turned out well. She quotes that she is able to have approximately 90% control over her ceramic creations and 10% suffer from the unexpected imperfections including cracks and discolourations. Naomi feels that working with ceramics is a life lesson in itself as you have to learn to surrender to imperfection. Certainly not easy for a perfectionist. www.studioenti.com.au
